Past weekenders: 2006

The 14th 6Ts weekender took place on the 9th, 10th and 11th June 2006, at the Beachcomber Holiday Centre, Cleethorpes

We were proud to have as our live acts for 2006:
DARROW FLETCHER and "LITTLE" CARL CARLTON

2006's star attraction was none other than Darrow Fletcher, the legendary and elusive Chicago soul singer who produced a string of deeply moving records throughout the second half of the 60s and the 70s.

Having his biggest hit at the tender age of fourteen in 1966 he is still a relatively young man and even has a year or two on one or two of the DJs; who will remain nameless. That hit was, of course, the ultra emotional 'The Pain Gets A Little Deeper' on Groovy records and along with songs like 'Infatuation', 'What Have I Got Now', 'My Young Misery', Changing By The Minute' 'What Good Am I Without You' and 'It's No Mistake' will sound fantastic live on stage at our special summer soul rendezvous.

Though I have always regarded Darrow's records very highly, I have been pleasantly shocked at how many people put them up at the very top of the artistic pile. At least five people I know of consider him to be their favourite soul singer ever! So it will be a truly momentous occasion for them and the rest of his legion of followers when he walks onto the Beachcomber's stage at midnight on Saturday June 10th. A second top class act will be announced shortly.

We still have the most glorious and sultry array of DJs on the circuit: Butch, Mick Smith, Keith Money, Ginger, Pat Brady, Bob Hinsley, Soul Sam, Roger Banks, Terry Jones, Andy Davies, Ivor Jones, Cliff Steele, Arthur Fenn, Mark Randall, Dave Rimmer and the mysterious Harboro Horace; plus several other press-ganged volunteers.

Detroit soul legend to make 1st UK appearance - Little Carl Carlton

Detroit soul legend "Little" Carl Carlton was also added to the bill. Like his Cleethorpes co-star Darrow Fletcher, Carl was a teenage soul sensation in the 60s and also went on to have a long and successful career well into the eighties.

His biggest hit "Bad Mama Jama" has featured in three major films recently but it's his more soulful dance numbers like "I Can Feel It", "Nothing No Sweeter Than Love", "So What", "Drop By My Place", "You Can't Stop A Man In Love" and of course the monumental "Competition Ain't Nothin'", that he will perform live for his Cleethorpes crowd. Like Darrow, his early start to his career means he is younger than some of the more weathered DJs appearing at the weekender.
