Past weekenders: 2005

The 13th 6Ts weekender took place on the 10th, 11th and 12th June 2005, at the Beachcomber Holiday Centre, Cleethorpes

We were proud to have as our live act for 2005 :
THE MIRWOOD REVUE Starring SHERLIE MATTHEWS & THE BELLES featuring Marva Holiday and Special Guests JIMMY THOMAS and JIM GILSTRAP

This was something different as we were spotlighting a great song writer who was also an excellent group session singer and are going to perform all the classic Northern Soul tunes she wrote and produced.

Sherlie Matthews was on most of the Mirwood singles as a backing vocalist but only featured on the Belles' tracks as an artist. She's now getting some long overdue acknowledgement for her fantastic work and has got together a girl group of LA's top session singers to perform them for us. She's known and worked with Marva Holiday since they were at school together and she wrote the Northern Soul classic 'It's Written All Over My Face' for her.

Also added to the bill was ex Ike & Tina Turner Revue singer Jimmy Thomas who had a Mirwood Northern smash with 'Where There's A Will' and also cut the monster stomper 'The Beautiful Night' when he moved to the UK in the late 60s.

Sherlie needed a singer who was versatile enough to cover the male songs and also to fit in with the group harmonies and she asked me if Jim Gilstrap would do because he has such a tremendous voice and vocal range. I of course said "Yes" and asked if he would solo on his Bell super-rarity 'Run, Run, Run' which he was more than happy to do. Between us we chose a storming selection of Northern soul classics with a couple of intriguing twists and turns to keep punters guessing.
