The 15th 6Ts weekender took place on the 8th, 9th and 10th June 2007, at the Beachcomber Holiday Centre, Cleethorpes
We were proud to have HB Barnum and The Apollas performing live with us this year.
Unfortunately due to illness Kell Osborne wasn't well enough to travel. However we had the stunning girl soul group The Apollas as replacements and they regaled us with the stomping sounds of You're Absolutely Right, Sorry Mama, Just Can't Get Enough and the Northern classic Mr Creator.
HB Barnum needs no introduction and we were very fortunate to get a musician of his calibre to come over and give a very rare live vocal performance when he was so busy working with Aretha and many other world famous singers. He also sang his Northern hits It Hurts Too Much To Cry, Heartbreaker, Three Rooms With Running Water, his modern soul classics If You Want A Love Affair, All Alone By The Telephone.
Billie Barnum, Leola Jiles, and Ella Jamerson – better known as the Apollas recorded some top notch material on the Loma label in a time when the Warner Record company was not well known for its soul sounds.
The girls debut on the label, "You're Absolutely Right," was a rough and tumble rock 'n' soul sounding song which established the trio as a strong presence in October 1965. Although the group didn't have any monster hits, they continued to pump out high quality material through 1968. After the brilliant girl pop piece "Pretty Red Balloons," the girls concentrated increasingly on Motown-styled soul and dance tunes.
"Lock Me In Your Heart," continued the girls commercial success, but "Mr. Creator," put them a head above the rest of their contemporaries. All eight of their Warner/Loma singles are worth pursuing.
