Butch
Universally
acknowledged as the leader in rare soul discoveries, with an astonishing
collection of great one-offs. No one can duplicate his set; the DJs'
DJ. Once told a joke in the 80s.
Mick Smith
A veteran of the Northern Scene from its very first days. Ady used to travel up to the Birds Nest in West Hampstead to hear him play 'Times a Wasting', 'Landslide', Butch Baker, and 'Crazy Baby' in 1972. He has the best collection of UK issued soul records in the world and robs trains in New Mexico at the weekend.
Shifty
Young
and dumb; this Essex himbo is virtually an embryo in DJing terms, never
having sampled a Wigan pie or doobs in pretty colours. However through
a shady network of US dealers, he's managed to assemble a fine collection
of rare soul records and occasionally plays them in the right order.
Primarily though he's a fanny magnet which in turn draws in older letches
like Roger Stewart and Dave Clegg, thereby boosting the door takings.
Ady Croasdell
Would-be
letch but at 79 years old is quite frankly not up to the job. His main
asset as a DJ is his access to unissued 60s tapes through his work with
Kent records. If it wasn't for that he'd sack himself and spend more
time at the bar.
The Guests
We have one or two each month and about one in every four all-nighters is an all-guest special. We were the first club to have a resident female DJ, Val Palmer in the mid 90s, and occasionally have an all girl line-up.
Regular guests are Roger Banks, Ginger, Carl Willingham, Bob Hinsley, Tony Smith, Ion, Keith Money & Kenny Burrell, Christina Naggar, Dave Rimmer, Jo Wallace, Andy Rix, Russ Vickers and Gustav Pomarenko.
Illustrious
occasional guests have included Gaz Kellett, Russ Winstanley, Kenny,
Richard Searling, Rob Marriot, Sean McCluskey, Ian Levine, Colin &
Allan Walls, Terry & Ivor Jones, Soul Sam, Brian Rae, Robbo, Dave
Evison and Big Bob Morris.
