What A Night! By Carmen
[Saturday, 14th August 2004 All-nighter]
Yes I know I said I wasn't going out but after spending time on the phone to Maria and listening to some sounds and the blisters had eased from last week, it was starting to tempt me. Added to that I was offered a lift from and to my door and the Olympics was on TV. Well It had to happen, didn't it - and its only 57 miles for gooowds sake - a spit away by comparison to anything else.
Danny was chuffed because he really hates driving in the city and a map reader was a very welcoming thought. We left at 11.30 and arrived at 2.00 am (I wonder if he would have managed better alone!). Tell you what, he played a superb tape - anyone know Andy Peak? What records this fella has! He's from Wolverhapton... Book him! Heard a Barbara Carr, "My Mama Told Me" (or something like that ) which I really liked and didn't know. Any help on this much appreciated - lets hope it's within budget.
We arrived and the place was jumpin' and I mean jumpin', took me a while to get accustom to the light and just the sheer amount of freindly faces that I knew. It felt like people made a big effort to attend this night. The air conditioning was a god send.
The music was "perfect " no other way to put it. The mix of DJs was so bloody good. Ady Lupton played out of skin I so enjoyed his set, and made sure he knew about it. I do hope we see more of him there; he certainly proved he earned the priv of playing there.
Mark Bicknall was superb too, he was loving it, you could see he was. His Willie McDougal sounded the muts nuts (my kinda sound) and Sterling Mcgee "You Don't Meeeen", oh no thats Curly More... oh playlists PLEASE!
Mick Smith played a trump card in playing "Be young Be foolish Be happy" to a packed floor and many kareoke singers. What balls the man has! It sounded and went down a treat. Butch - well need I say everyone a gem and Ady has a great feel for knowing what's right at the end of a night... "but just before we bring you down to a nice floater lets get the last pound of flesh with the Charades!".
Butch, and possibly Ady L, played the Roy Roberts. That was a master stroke, lovely sound - "I know what to do to satisfy you". Just keep playing more like that please!
You could not fault the night, 10 out of 10, and add to that a great cocktail of people and you have the makings of a great night. It was very hot when we all tumbled out at 8.30. The sun was bright and we all quivered as we hit the street. I was so hungry though. When we were trying to find our way out of London I saw a man eating outside a cafe near Brick lane. I was so tempted to do a bacon buttie snatch - I was bloody starving and gaging for a drink tea.
Took two and half hours to get home... exhausted!
Lovely to see Matt Jahans looking so well and happy and many many others. Pete Gent's tongue was a disgusting colour of purple, god knows what he'd been eating. Billy had sufficient space to spin and I do believe my buddy Maria had a good first night back at the 100 where she feels very much at home. We all went home happy bunnies.
